New details of the upcoming León Cupra

When the launch date of a model approaches, the technical data begins to surface. This is the case of the new Cupra version of the Seat León. The brand can boast of building cars with a sporty and dynamic touch, whatever their purpose in the market, especially when it comes to launching what will be one of the spiciest and most powerful versions in the history of the Spanish brand.
The colleagues at Autocar managed to speak with one of the engineers in charge of tuning this very sporty variant, and were able to obtain juicy data, which we tell you about here.

Originally launched in 2000, it featured a 2.8 VR6 engine delivering 204 CV, and a 1.8 Turbo with 225 CV for the Cupra R version. In the next generation, both the Cupra and the Cupra R (2006) featured the famous VW 2.0 TFSI engine in two power levels, 240 and 265 CV respectively. With such power levels, the Leon Cupra and Cupra R instantly became exclusive and very fast models, at least on par with the Golf GTI, with which they shared (and still share) many components.
For this new generation of the Cupra, which is scheduled for the end of the year, they have opted to keep using the 2.0 TFSI engine, suitably updated, so that its power will rise from 240 to 265 CV, thereby matching the power of the previous Cupra R and leaving the door open to a future Cupra R with around 280-290 CV. We would be talking about very serious performance figures for the new Cupra, which will almost certainly reach 250 km/h and go from 0 to 100 in approximately 6 seconds.
To meet the greatest demands, the León Cupra is expected to include among its dynamic equipment a mechanical limited-slip differential and DCC adaptive damping, all helped by the new MQB modular platform, which helps reduce the weight of the whole.
