New Fiat 500X Sport: a spicy touch for the Italian SUV

The Fiat 500X Sport arrives at dealerships to bring a sporty edge to the Italian SUV range.

The new Fiat 500X Sport arrives with a spicier new look and top-of-the-range equipment. This new trim sits at the top of the Italian urban SUV range, so beyond its sportier styling, it offers practically endless customisation options.

The Fiat 500X Sport is the top of the range, and it shows

Fiat set out to make the Sport version of the Fiat 500X catch the eye, and it has certainly succeeded. We get a much sportier look enhanced by Rosso Seduzzione red paint, specific to this version. There are also some titanium grey elements, such as the door handles, the front bumper inserts and the mirror housings.

One of the features that could not be missing is the 19-inch alloy wheels. Side skirts and a double exhaust tailpipe complete this sporty look. Furthermore, the entire colour palette can be combined with a black roof.

Inside, it is also easy to see that this is a top-of-the-range model with a sporty touch. The whole cabin is trimmed in dark fabric, the upholstery is combined with red stitching, and the steering wheel knob is aluminium. Finally, an Alcantara steering wheel covering can be chosen as an option, a detail unprecedented in cars of this segment.

The seats feature the “500” logo embroidered in grey and are finished with grey and red stitching. However, Fiat offers black leather upholstery as an option. Aluminium pedals and front floor mats with custom stitching can also be fitted.

As for its technology equipment, the Fiat 500X Sport comes as standard with the UConnect infotainment system, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is paired with a 7-inch touchscreen that dominates the centre console.

New elements for a more sporty behaviour

The new Fiat 500X Sport can be paired with all the engines available in the rest of the range. The most notable are the FireFly Turbo petrol engines that we tested a year ago: the 1.0-litre with 120 CV paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, or the 1.3-litre with 150 CV linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. Without doubt, the latter is the engine to choose if you want a more sporty feel.

The new automatic transmissions are not yet available across the manufacturer’s range, as the FCA Group – to which Fiat belongs – will equip its new hybrids with ZF 8-speed gearboxes.

The Italian crossover is not just about looks: the Fiat 500X Sport features a new sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 13 mm. As a result, the car sets its SUV origins aside a little and feels more like a compact model, so its cornering behaviour also improves considerably.

As for its driver assistance systems, we find features such as traffic sign recognition, overspeed warning, lane keeping assist, cruise control and front and rear parking sensors.

The prices of the new Fiat 500X Sport start at 17,000 euros, making it an attractive option in every respect, and it is already available to order at the Italian brand’s dealerships.
