The Ford Edge gets an update with new styling features and a new twin-turbo diesel engine. More power to position the SUV in an increasingly competitive segment.

The new features of the Ford Edge cover every area. The main one is the EcoBlue twin-turbo 2-litre engine producing 238 CV, which debuts in the SUV. A new 8-speed automatic gearbox also arrives, along with the ST-Line version in which it is presented, available for the first time in Europe. The model launched in 2016 gains performance to compete in the SUV segment.

EcoBlue twin-turbo diesel engine

With this EcoBlue 2-litre engine producing 238 CV, Ford incorporates a new twin-turbo system that optimises torque and fuel efficiency. As a result, it achieves dynamic performance never seen before in the Ford SUV, while also optimising fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The EcoBlue 2.0 twin-turbo system includes a small high-pressure turbo and a larger low-pressure turbo that work in series at low revs to deliver greater responsiveness and better torque. When the Edge travels at higher speeds, it is the larger turbo that works alone to deliver maximum power.

This version works with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox featuring adaptive shift configuration and adaptive ride quality control. These innovations optimise shift times and read the terrain’s topography to select the right gear. A 190 CV version will also be available, and both carry Intelligent All-Wheel Drive from Ford.

ST-Line trim
For the first time, the

ST-Line trim will also be available on the Ford Edge. This makes it the first Ford SUV prepared by the brand’s performance division, Ford Performance. As announced at the Detroit Show.

This sporty trim includes numerous design elements that make the SUV look sportier. These include an upper front grille with black finish on the bars and frame, standard aluminium alloy wheels in 20 inches with an optional 21-inch size, or perforated leather details on the steering wheel and gear lever. The ST-Line version also features a sportier adaptive suspension.

The Ford Edge will also be available in the high-end Vignale trim, in addition to the Titanium version and the Trend models. Across all versions, the SUV’s cabin gains a greater sense of quality and infotainment equipment. The centre console has been redesigned and a fully configurable 3D digital instrument cluster is included.

New driver assistance systems

The technology of the new Ford Edge is not limited to infotainment. The new SUV features three new additions over its previous driver assistance systems: Post-Collision Braking helps reduce the impact of a possible second collision. Evasive Steering Assist helps drivers move between stationary or slower vehicles while avoiding collisions. And Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centring helps the vehicle maintain a constant speed with a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

It also includes other already familiar assistants such as Adaptive Front Lighting System, Blind Spot Information System, Active Park Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition, among others.
