New MINI Countryman with minor design changes and improved equipment

MINI will make minor aesthetic changes to the exterior and interior of the Countryman, but will incorporate new technology and adapt its engines to the Euro 6d standard

Mini Countryman 2020 (14)

MINI has the Countryman as its most versatile and adaptable model, thanks to its larger dimensions and its adventurous character derived from its SUV features, all accompanied by that distinctive brand aesthetic that has attracted so many drivers. The Countryman faces 2020 with new features affecting the styling of its entire range, but also with important changes in technology that we will now find inside.

The styling of the MINI Countryman is one of its great allies, which is why the brand will not apply profound changes to it. These changes focus on a new bumper that features more pronounced lines that perhaps give it a greater presence, and it is fully finished in the body colour chosen, while a little higher up, on the front grille, we will see a new design with hexagonal contours and a single chrome surround framing it. On both sides, the standard light cluster is now LED, as are the fog lights, and although it keeps the same design, this is reinforced with distinctive contours that accentuate the daytime running lights. LED Matrix headlights remain optional.

At the rear, the changes also focus on a new bumper that incorporates a newly designed underbody trim and which, like the front one, reinforces its adventurous image, while the rear light cluster also becomes standard LED and features the Union Jack as its graphic signature. The exterior changes are completed with alloy wheels of specific design ranging from 16 to 19 inches in size, and two new body colours are added: White Silver metallic and Sage Green metallic. Optionally, the Piano Black Exterior colour is added, which replaces the chrome trim on the headlight surrounds, the rear lights, the grille, the side indicator mouldings, the door handles and the model badge on the tailgate.

In the interior of the MINI Countryman we will continue to find the same layout for both the various elements and the passengers, as well as its 450-litre boot capacity, expandable to 1,390 litres if we fold the seats in a 40:20:40 configuration. With this update we will have greater personalisation options in the new Countryman, as new leather upholstery is added in Chester Indigo Blue and Chester Malt Brown for the seats, while the Colour Line now forms part of the leather finish. We will also have new surfaces that are integrated into the options catalogue, although Piano Black will be offered as standard.

But without doubt the most important technological changes are found at the driving position, and the instrument panel will now be fully digital as standard, comprising a Black Panel-design screen with a diameter of 5 inches, which is complemented by the 8.8-inch touchscreen located on the centre console, which includes compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is also worth highlighting the new design applied to the audio control panel, the emergency light buttons and the driver assistance systems, which are now integrated more seamlessly into the interior design itself.

In terms of engines, the MINI Countryman will continue to offer diesel engines with power outputs between 116 CV and 190 CV, along with petrol engines ranging from 102 CV to 178 CV, with separate mention of the plug-in hybrid version Cooper SE Countryman ALL4, which will remain the most powerful version with its 220 CV; although it should be said that all of them now comply with the Euro 6d standard thanks to the installation of particulate filters for the petrol engines and SCR technology with AdBlue injection for the diesel engines. The ALL4 all-wheel-drive variants will remain reserved for the more powerful versions, while depending on the version the gearboxes will be either a six-speed manual or Steptronic automatics with 6, 7 (dual-clutch) or 8 speeds.

MINI has not yet revealed the prices for the new Countryman range, but we will remain alert as its arrival on the market is scheduled for the coming months of the year.
