New patent images of the BMW XM leak out
The BMW XM’s debut is just around the corner, as the brand has confirmed that production will begin at the end of this year.

Almost a year has passed since BMW unveiled the XM concept, and now we are getting a detailed look at the next production model. iXForums has leaked new patent photos showing that the SUV keeps the controversial look of the concept, but the design has been softened. In particular, we can see a smaller grille flanked by quad lighting units similar to those found on the 7 Series.
Further down, there is a new central air intake with a prominent sensor for high-tech driver assistance systems. Other notable changes include less dramatic air intakes and fenders that appear more rounded. The model also features traditional door handles and thicker pillars.
The BMW XM patent images
The production-spec patent drawings of the BMW XM 2023 show some minor changes compared to the prototype. At the rear, there is a four-tailpipe exhaust system and more conventional taillights. The designers also modified the bumper and diffuser, but kept the angular rear window.

BMW presented the production model earlier this year and noted that the SUV will feature a newly developed V8 engine, as well as a plug-in hybrid powertrain that gives the XM a combined output of 480 kW / 653 CV and 800 Nm of torque. It will be paired with an M xDrive system specific to hybrids that promises to be “extremely spontaneous”.
While the SUV is performance-focused, it will also be eco-friendly, as BMW has already confirmed that the model will have an electric-only range of approximately 80 km on the WLTP cycle. Other highlights will include Adaptive M Professional suspension, an electromechanical active roll stabilisation system with 48-volt technology, and integral active steering. Buyers will also find an M braking system, as well as optional lightweight M alloy wheels measuring up to 23 inches.
BMW has not said much about the XM lately, but the debut is just around the corner, as the company has already confirmed that production will begin at the end of this year.
