The ten best-selling cars in August 2022
The Toyota Yaris has become the best-selling car during the month of August, followed by the Dacia Sandero.

August is not usually a good month for car registrations in Spain, but this year it broke all the patterns, achieving growth of 9.1%. During the last month, the market grew, but no change in trend is expected, given the current economic context with inflation at 10.4% and geopolitical tensions. In fact, last month’s figure is 30.3% lower than the 74,490 passenger cars sold in August 2019, when a serious pandemic was not foreseen.
The Toyota Yaris has become the best-selling car during the eighth month of the year. The urban hybrid registered 1,703 units, and its sibling, the Toyota Yaris Cross, achieved 998 more units. It is followed by the Dacia Sandero, another very strong rival that closely follows the Yaris with 1,557 units in August and a year-to-date total of 13,216 units.

Raúl Morales, communications director of Faconauto, has pointed out that “despite the slight improvement in the market in August, the very low number of vehicles sold still speaks to us of a meagre and depressed market which, impacted by a totally unfavourable context (price increases, high fuel costs or families’ distrust when it comes to consuming), is not able to change dynamics to approach more reasonable figures. The crisis the automotive sector is going through in our country is unprecedented and its consequences for employment and competitiveness are unpredictable, which is why the inaction and the Government’s reluctance to meet with the sector, as already requested by Faconauto and UGT, is not understood, in order to find measures that boost the viability of such a strategic activity for the economy and consumption.”
For its part, Tania Puche, communications director of Ganvam, has highlighted that “the market closes positive after five consecutive months of declines. However, we cannot ring the bells just yet, because volume remains more than 30% below pre-pandemic figures. Moreover, sales to private buyers, which are the ones that indicate the health of the market, close out a downward quarter in August, largely because the current climate of economic uncertainty does not encourage purchases.”
