Nissan Qashqai e-Power 2022, a hybrid to regain the lead in SUV sales
For many years, the Nissan Qashqai was the sales leader, but after being overtaken it wants to regain the lead with this hybrid that arrives in the summer.

For a long time, when we talked about the best-selling SUV in our country, everyone thought of the Nissan Qashqai. A model that stood at the top for several years and was later pushed down the rankings by models from other brands. But to regain the spot it held for so long, Nissan has presented a new version to complement its range.
The Nissan Qashqai e-Power 2022 will be the first variant of the SUV to feature the e-Power hybrid system, with full hybridisation, far from the mild hybrid system the model has used until now. It will be the first to introduce this hybrid approach, which Japan already uses in the Nissan Note.

Combustion engine as electricity generator
This system is being used by more and more vehicles, since the combustion engine in this case acts as an electricity generator, which powers the electric motor. The electric motor is what drives the car, and the combustion engine is not used to propel it, so consumption stays at low levels.

The combustion engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit with 155 CV, which generates the electricity for the electric motor. The latter is responsible for moving the car thanks to a power output of 140 kW, equivalent to 188 CV. The drive unit is completed by an inverter and a battery that stores the energy.
In this way, the driver can access the torque instantly, since it is delivered by the electric motor. Regenerative braking helps keep the battery charged, and the e-Pedal driving mode, which can be activated with a switch, allows very efficient deceleration simply by lifting off the accelerator pedal.
City driving accounts for the largest number of kilometres covered by drivers, so this car can be very practical for many of them. Consumption is rated at 5.2 litres per 100 kilometres and emissions are 119 g/km on the combined cycle. It will reach the national market in summer 2022, so we will soon see whether it regains its place as Spain’s best-selling SUV, as it once held.
