Now it's official: the new Opel Astra

Following the leak of official images earlier this morning, the people behind Opel have decided to strike back by finally revealing all the details of the new generation of the Astra.
This morning we told you about the design of the new Astra, which has changed completely to become one of the leading compacts in its segment.
Overall, the exterior design has been noticeably sharpened, with a much sportier front end in which both the headlights and the bumper sit lower than on its predecessor. The side line also changes, as the beltline is now higher, with less glass area that heightens the sense of robustness.

The interior differences are also notable: the new Astra now has lines more similar to those of the redesigned Corsa, with a much more favourable layout in which the driver will feel far more at ease.
The chassis has been completely reworked, clearly embracing a factor that has been very fashionable in recent years: weight reduction. Here, the Astra sets itself apart from its rivals with a remarkable reduction of up to 200 kg, a true diet that does not compromise other factors such as stiffness, which has increased noticeably in this new generation, making the Astra more enjoyable to drive.
The Astra will be offered with a complete range of engines in which low consumption and performance have been carefully studied. The entry point, for now, will be a 1.6 diesel producing 95 CV, alongside a three-cylinder 1.0 petrol engine producing 105 CV. One of the most popular engines in the range will be the recently updated 1.4 ECOTEC four-cylinder producing 145 CV.

In technological terms, the Astra clearly focuses on safety and comfort, debuting a new matrix LED lighting system called “IntelliLux LED”, which will offer light levels never before seen in the segment. Lane change and pedestrian detectors, as well as road sign readers, will not be missing.
