Opel GT X Experimental: this is how the Opel designs of the future will look
Opel previews the design lines of the cars it will launch in the coming years with the GT X Experimental, an electric and autonomous concept.
They are part of what the brand calls the Opel GT X Experimental concept, and they offer the most outstanding features that could identify the future models of Opel that are already being prepared for the 2020s. And judging by what we can see, the shift towards a sporty and technological image is complete. Best of all, it even revives nods to legendary models from Opel’s past, such as the very Opel Manta.

Two stylistic proposals are what Opel shows as a preview of the design its future models will have: the Opel Compass and the Opel Vizor. The first brings together some of the features already seen on the aforementioned 1970s Opel Manta, with a central crease on the bonnet and the Opel badge placed on the horizontal axis formed by the headlights. Now, the brand’s emblem is the true star, positioned between the wing-shaped daytime running lights, which will be a signature feature of future Opel models.
Electric and autonomous
With its bodywork reminiscent of a compact SUV with a powerful silhouette, the Opel GT X Experimental also features the “new Opel face,” which is summed up in what the brand calls the “Opel Vizor.” It is an integrated module that frames all the high-tech elements as an emblem. The difficult part here has been the evolution of a car like the Opel Manta that serves as inspiration, where the front grille had to provide cooling for the combustion engines. The new concept will replace the classic grille in the future, where it will fulfil different functions, since it no longer has to meet cooling needs, given that we are talking about electric propulsion models.

The new grille, for example, will include an LED light integrated into the emblem, which will show the vehicle’s operating status by changing colour. And behind it, the cameras and sensors needed for driver assistance and autonomous driving systems can be placed.
