Passenger car sales rise, but electrified vehicles fall in October
Passenger car sales during October 2023 rose slightly, although they have not reached 2019 levels and electric vehicles are not recovering.

Although the passenger car sales figures have not yet fully recovered from pre-pandemic levels, good news arrived in October 2024. The increase has not been very large, but sales of this type of vehicle have risen. Specifically, this increase stands at 7.2%.
In total figures, this means 83,472 units were sold. This growth is seen across all sales channels, driven mainly by the rebound in sales of conventional hybrid vehicles. In total, so far in 2024, 828,462 units have been sold, which represents a 4.9% increase compared with the same period of 2023.

That said, electrified vehicles have seen a sales decline during October of 1.4% compared with the same month last year. It is not a worrying drop in sales, but it adds to other indicators appearing in other markets that call into question the adoption of electric vehicles.

9,908 units of this type of vehicle were sold, representing 11.98% of sales for the month. Across the full year, 90,137 units have been sold, a slight increase of 0.4% compared with 2023. This figure represents a 10.88% market share over the year.
The only electrified models holding up in the market, and even increasing their market share, are conventional hybrid vehicles. Over the first ten months of the year, 439,986 sales have been registered. This represents 17.8% more than in 2023.
Battery electric cars, on the other hand, fell 10.9% in October, with only 5,504 units sold. Plug-in hybrid vehicles recorded sales of 5,252 units and show a 3.7% increase, while year-to-date they are down 4.5%, with a total of 48,225 units sold throughout 2024. Here there is a 4.5% decrease compared with the previous year’s sales.
Gas-powered vehicles recorded sales of 3,194 units, 2.6% more than in October 2023. Hydrogen-powered cars amounted to just three units, an insignificant figure in October’s overall registrations.
