Porsche 993 Speedster Remastered, the latest feat from specialist Gunther Werks takes its first steps

Gunther Werks, the specialist in modernising 911 993 models, has shown the first live images of its latest work on the production line

Porsche 993 Speedster Remastered

Gunther Werks is a tuner dedicated exclusively to building restomods of the Porsche 911 generation 993. That is to say, it brings these classic 993s up to date by refreshing their look and fitting modifications that improve their dynamics, all while obviously preserving the very special essence that defines the original 911.

Based in Huntington Beach, California, the team at Gunther Werks has revealed, through the brand’s official Instagram account, the first images of its new 993 Speedster Remastered. Together with the renders the brand showed us some time ago, these images let us enjoy this work of art based on the 400R that the tuner presented at the SEMA 2017 show.

Very modern design

From the front, the muscular look is immediately apparent, thanks to its wide, reshaped wheel arches that stand out even more thanks to a lower windscreen and the two iconic carbon-fibre humps at the rear of the Speedster. In addition, its new LED headlights improve illumination while keeping the round shape of the 911.

The side profile, as is typical of a 911, is absolutely perfect. Gunther Werks has worked the smooth, dynamic and muscular shapes to make this 993, although it is a model that was launched in 1993, look completely current. The wheels, as could not be otherwise, are Fuchs units in lead grey that combine perfectly.

At the rear, which we were able to see in detail thanks to the images the tuner published on its social network, we can highlight its twin central exhaust outlets in Inconel manufactured using 3D printing, an LED tail light running the full width of the car, and a duck-tail rear spoiler, another iconic element of classic 911s that suits it so well.

Use of high technology

As we have already said, one of the most important objectives of Gunther Werks is to improve the car’s dynamics. All of that starts with reducing weight, and this 993 Speedster Remastered has been fitted with a bonnet 25% lighter than the original, along with numerous carbon-fibre components. Its chassis has also been reinforced to offer better torsional rigidity, as this is a model without a roof.

Inside, the renders reveal new carbon-fibre bucket seats and a dashboard and instrument panel that keep the classic look, with five attractive analogue gauges typical of the original 993 behind the steering wheel.

Six-cylinder heart

Under its rear cover we find a six-cylinder engine with 4.0 litres and more than 441 CV, the output the aforementioned 400R had, and it will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox Porsche.

The debut of this Porsche 993 Speedster Remastered will be on 13 August at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and its price, although not yet confirmed by Gunther Werks, will exceed half a million euros. Production will match that price, as only 25 examples of this very special restomod will be built.
