The Renault ZOE is reaching the end of its service life: it will disappear in two years
Although it is one of the most popular models of the French brand, they have already set a date for the end of production in favour of other models, in 2024

For some time now, the Renault ZOE has become one of the most popular electric cars in Europe. In fact, in some markets it has even overtaken the Tesla Model 3 as the best-selling electric car. A strong case for earning its place as one of the most popular cars in the segment. But the French brand has decided that the end of the model’s service life is near, and has set a date for the end of production.
There is no need to worry too much. Although this will be the last generation of the Renault ZOE, it will remain in production until 2024. It will then be replaced by another model, which will be built on the CMF-EV platform, created for the brand’s electric vehicles. It is a rather surprising decision, since this is a model that has sold around 300,000 units across Europe, many of them in France.

Launched in 2012 and with an end-of-production date
The Renault ZOE arrived in 2012 and has received several updates and improvements over all these years. The current generation reached the market in 2019. The battery capacity and the electric motor are some of the elements that have been improved over time, increasing its range and efficiency. The results have been very satisfactory, and the model has become a benchmark for urban electric mobility.
Curiously, the end-of-production date coincides with the start of manufacturing of the new Renault 5 EV, so one might think that, despite the brand’s initial refusal, this would be the natural successor to the ZOE. But this does not rule out the addition of a new electric model to the French brand’s range.
The production of electric cars under the Renault umbrella would bring a considerable reduction in costs, since all of them would be based on the same dedicated platform. This would eliminate the difference in cost, and consequently in price, between these electric models.
Curiously, the Renault 5 will not use the CMF-EV platform, but the CMF-BEV, one based on it. On this platform the segment A and B models will be built, while the former is reserved for larger vehicles, such as the Renault Megane or the Alpine models.
