Porsche 997.2 Turbo S vs Nissan GT-R MY12

911_vs_gtr_finalWith the GT3 RS 4.0 the 997 saga comes to an end, but first it must smooth out some of the rough edges it has picked up along the way. The biggest of these, without a doubt, has been the one created by the Nissan GT-R. So Autozeitung saw fit to carry out one last comparison and settle this rivalry (which is already almost a myth).

The contenders are the 911 Turbo S and the 2012 model GT-R. Both have a 6-cylinder engine, 3.8 litres of displacement, direct injection, turbocharging (two in the case of the Porsche) and 530 CV. Many similarities, as can be seen. Let’s start with the differences: how about some acceleration tests?

The 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in the blink of an eye in both cars: 2.98 seconds for the Porsche; 3.10 for the Nissan. Yes, you read that right: the Porsche needs less than 3 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Incredible, isn’t it? And here are the times for 0-200 km/h: 9.8 seconds for the Porsche; 11.2 for the Nissan.

1-0 to the Porsche. Now let’s move on to the territory where the Nissan has always given the Stuttgart car a hard time, lap times on a circuit.

The track chosen is the short layout of the Nürburgring circuit used in F1. In total 3.56 kilometres which, aboard the Porsche, are covered in 1:39.31 minutes, and in a Nissan it takes 3 tenths of a second longer (1:39.62 minutes). Wow! If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time the 911 has beaten the GT-R on a circuit. It’s only three tenths, but one must consider that the GT-R uses semi-slicks (Dunlop SP SportMaxx GT 600 DSSR), while the 911 uses “normal” sports tyres (Bridgestone Potenza R050 A).

On the other hand, one must also bear in mind that the Porsche costs almost twice as much, has 88 Nm more torque and weighs 197 kg less…

All these cold acceleration figures, lap times and so on are very well, but which do you think has the greater capacity to excite you and convey the pure pleasure of driving?

RB, yo pienso igual que tu, pero hay mucha gente que todavía no se ha enterado del potencial no solo del Nissan GT-R, sino de nuevo “superdeportivos” capaces de sacar los colores a todos los veteranos
