Porsche will fit a 700 CV V8 engine to the new hybrid Panamera
The next generation of the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid could incorporate the same V8 engine as the current Turbo version.
The new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid stands out for its high performance, but the German brand intends to take this model to an even higher level. Porsche is preparing a more powerful hybrid variant for its five-door saloon. At an event in South Africa, the sales and marketing director of the Porsche Panamera confirmed that the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid will stop using the 2.9-litre V6 engine in its next generation and will instead offer a V8 engine alongside the electric motor.

“With the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid we are presenting our new hybrid strategy. We will have two high-performance hybrids in our Panamera range. The hybrid is a very important model because it combines performance and efficiency. Our global target as a brand is to increase this balance between performance and efficiency, and hybrid versions are the best way to reach our goals,” says Stefan Utsch, sales and marketing director of the Porsche Panamera.

The current Panamera Turbo tops the range and uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. This engine delivers 542 CV of power and 770 Nm of torque. If Porsche decides to use this V8 unit for the Panamera Hybrid, as seems likely, we could be talking about a hybrid model that, together with the electric motor, achieves a power output close to 700 CV. In that case, the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid would become, in terms of performance, a five-door equivalent of the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Porsche has not yet confirmed when it will launch this new V8 hybrid Panamera. “We will see at some point in the future,” says Stefan Utsch.
