Renault evaluates electric models of Renault Sport and Alpine

Renault is studying the conversion of models from Renault Sport or Alpine to electric.

It is the era of electric cars, and everyone wants a model like this in their lineup. One of the brands that has adopted the technology most quickly has been Renault, which already offers the Zoe and Twizzy. However, the diamond brand wants more, and no less than Renault Sport and Alpine would have given their consent to convert some of their models to electric.

I know what you’re thinking; it can’t be very pleasant to see a Renault Megane R.S. with an electric motor that can’t travel even 100 kilometres without stopping to refuel, or that doesn’t go beyond 160 at top speed. Thierry Koskas, the company’s global head of electric vehicles, doesn’t think so. According to this executive, “there will be notable gains in handling and acceleration”. Of course, if we’re going to mention things, he has “forgotten” other weak points of this technology that perhaps weren’t worth bringing up.

It is likely that, on the Alpine side, the A110 Concept will be converted to electric (in fact, the concept looked electric), although according to Koskas himself, the matter is still on the discussion table and nothing will be known until the French brand decides.

Whether abandoning certain traditions of the diamond’s sports cars and setting aside a good base of followers of its models, in favour of electrons and protons, is beneficial for the brand, we don’t know; what we can tell you is that Renault is determined to take the lead in Europe with regard to electric models of all kinds. Of course, it will be necessary to convince the customers of Renault Sport models that this is the best strategy so as not to lose them all during the technology transition they plan to carry out.
