Rolls Royce Silent Shadow, the first electric model from the superluxury brand

Now that internal combustion engines seem to be in their final years of existence, Rolls Royce is embracing a brand-new electric model.

The maker of superluxury cars has a name. We have already seen that one of its models has the honour of being considered the most expensive car in the world. The Rolls Royce Boat Tail costs a staggering 23 million euros, and only three exist, all of which have already been sold. But with the expiry date of combustion engines in Europe getting ever closer, it has to get its act together, quite literally, and start thinking about electric mobility.

So it came as no surprise that the British company has announced that the brand’s new electric model is already in development. No, we know nothing about what Rolls Royce plans to offer for a superluxury model powered by electricity, but the truth is there is considerable anticipation to see what it may propose.

Silent Shadow

What we do know is the name of this future electric model. It will be called Silent Shadow, the name the company registered a few months ago for this model. The name gives us a clue about the design of this electric car. The Silver Shadow was a model on the market from 1965 to 1980. The word Silent will come from its main characteristic, the quiet operation that is typical of electric cars.

This is relevant because, as Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, the company’s CEO, has stated, “nobody pays attention to the roar of a Rolls engine“. And it’s true. What stands out in the brand’s cars is their equipment, their performance and, above all, what they offer inside. That will remain important even if the propulsion system is electric.

Rolls Royce’s plans involve creating a new range of electric cars. No converting earlier models and swapping the combustion engine for an electric drive system. This may mean a complete generational change and the arrival of new models that will replace the current ones.

Another thing expected is that this electric Rolls Royce will share elements and characteristics with the future BMW i7. This luxury saloon will be fitted with a battery of considerable capacity, 120 kWh, which will power the electric motors that allow it to reach a power output of 610 CV. Will the future Silent Shadow use these figures? We will have to wait a little longer, but I don’t think they will be very different.
