Seat still considers the SUV among its plans

Following the launch of the Seat León ST, the Spanish brand is well aware that SUVs make up a segment that moves a lot of money. With the gap left by the departure of the Altea, the production of an SUV is still among the brand’s plans, according to Jürgen Stackmann.
Seat would be based on the IBX concept, presented at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, and its commercial launch would be scheduled for 2015. At the same time, the original plans also mentioned a small SUV based on the Mii, although Stackmann has said nothing on this topic. Let us recall that one of the latest moves by James Muir, the former CEO of Seat, was the announcement of both SUVs; he even went so far as to say that the one based on the IBX already had the board’s approval.
With Seat’s expansion in China, and knowing that the Eastern market is very receptive to SUVs, the successor to the IBX would be an important step forward in Seat’s future development in the East. Of course, in Europe we have been promised the SUV for a couple of years now, but I do not think Seat can offer much with a new SUV in Europe, whereas in China it can.
As for what we can summarise so far about the new SUV, it could be somewhat larger than a Nissan Qashqai and will surely be based on the Volkswagen Taigun, both in platform and engines. The project James Muir had in mind also involved applying the design lines of the new León and the new Ibiza to the future SUV.
