Shelby Super Snake Speedster: this is the latest and most spectacular creation from Shelby American

We’re not exaggerating when we confirm that the Ford Mustang is a legend among legends, a title it earned the hard way as the father of the muscle car. The Blue Oval pulled off a masterstroke with one of its favorite children, but Shelby American, the tuner, managed to refine it even further. Today they continue to work hand in hand with Ford, and a clear example of this is the Shelby Super Snake Speedster, a special edition designed to commemorate the 98th birthday of Carroll Shelby, its founder.

With this premise, Shelby American has managed to create one of the most spectacular Shelby variants of all time. As we’ve come to expect, there are changes both aesthetic and mechanical, making the conventional Ford Mustang look like a joke -with all due respect- next to it.

When it comes to design, the American tuner has added a more aggressive front splitter, widened wheel arches, a new exhaust outlet and, of course, a completely flat convertible top that flows into two humps. The cabin, on the other hand, shows few novelties beyond some specific stitching and the removal of the rear seats to accommodate its status as a speedster.

But what changes -and changes a lot- in the Shelby Super Snake Speedster is the mechanical side. Let’s remember that the Ford Mustang GT, the model Shelby American uses as the basis for this creation, boasts the legendary Coyote V8, a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter engine that produces 450 CV, but the tuner wanted to go much further this time.

It’s true that the engine remains intact as the base, but the Shelby team has turned to forced induction so that it produces a whopping 836 CV of power. That figure is managed by either a six-speed manual gearbox or, alternatively, an automatic gearbox. Both transmissions have undergone the necessary modifications to digest all that force with precision.

Be that as it may, anyone interested in acquiring a unit of the Shelby Super Snake Speedster -whose production figure is unknown- will have to face a minimum outlay of $130,000. This is one of the most spectacular and iconic creations from Shelby American, which will continue working very closely with Ford.
