Škoda Auto takes a step into the future by announcing the series production of the second generation of its flagship SUV, the Kodiaq, at the Kvasiny plant, Czech Republic. This exciting news comes thanks to an impressive 49-million-euro investment, aimed at modernising and preparing the production line and welding shop for all the challenges this production may bring. The strategic relocation of Superb production to Bratislava has strengthened Kvasiny’s capacity for producing the successful Kodiaq and the bestselling Karoq.

Andreas Dick, member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Škoda Auto, highlights the importance of the event: “The Kodiaq marked the start of our SUV campaign in 2016. The arrival of this successful model in its second generation is a special milestone. The 49-million-euro investment in modernising our facilities secures the future of production in Kvasiny. I thank everyone involved for their dedication, whose expertise allows us to open a new chapter in the history of our flagship SUV”.

49-million-euro investment

The new Kodiaq will continue to be produced on the original line but now, with a strategic investment of 49 million euros, the Kvasiny plant is prepared to face the challenges of the future and to prepare for production of the new Kodiaq iV, the plug-in hybrid variant of the model. The key upgrades include:

  • Improvements to handling equipment
  • Chassis assembly
  • Transport technologies
  • Optimisation of robot functions for applying glue to the windows.

Previously, the Kvasiny production line also served the Škoda Superb. However, in a strategic move to increase SUV production, the Superb has found its new home at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, thereby freeing up Kvasiny’s capacity to produce up to 410 Kodiaqs per day.

More than one million Kodiaqs produced

Škoda’s SUV campaign began with the global launch of the Kodiaq in 2016, followed by the compact Karoq in 2017, the urban SUV Kamiq in 2019 and the all-electric Enyaq in 2021. The Kodiaq RS, presented in 2018, was the first SUV in Škoda’s RS performance family.

To date, the collaboration between Škoda’s plants in the Czech Republic, Ukraine, China and, until early 2022, Russia, has resulted in the production of more than 870,000 units of the first-generation Kodiaq, distributed across 60 global markets. This SUV has been acclaimed by both customers and critics, accumulating more than 40 prestigious international awards.
