Smart adds a version 5,000 euros cheaper than the #1 to its range
With the introduction of a new, lower-capacity LFP battery pack in its electric crossover, Smart aims to reach a new type of customer with a slightly tighter budget.
Smart has just announced the availability in Europe of an even more affordable version of its #1 electric crossover. Called Pro, this new version sits one step below the entry-level version of the range until now, the Pro+. In Germany, the Smart #1 Pro will be on sale from 37,490 euros. In other words, 5,000 euros less than the Pro+ version has cost and still costs.
To achieve this price reduction, Smart has not cut back on equipment or lowered the level of the trim finishes. The only difference between the two versions is their battery pack. Thus, while the Smart #1 Pro+ has an NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery pack with a gross capacity of 66 kWh (62 kWh net), the new Smart #1 Pro comes with a completely different battery pack, made up of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells with a total gross capacity of 49 kWh (47 kWh net).

For the moment, the supplier of the LFP cells for this new battery pack is unknown, but what we do know is that Smart promises a WLTP range of 310 km. On the other hand, the manufacturer states that when charging with direct current it supports a maximum power of 130 kW, and it is possible to increase the charge from 10 to 80 percent in just under 30 minutes under optimal conditions. Smart does not mention, however, the power supported on alternating current using a wallbox, so it seems we will have to wait for the first third-party reviews to learn this figure.
Nothing else changes apart from the battery pack
As we have already mentioned, the only difference between the Pro and Pro+ versions of the Smart #1 is its battery pack. That means the powertrain remains the same 200 kW motor located on the rear axle.
Smart says it will begin accepting orders for the new #1 Pro version from mid-autumn of this coming year in several European markets, including Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland and also Spain. By spring 2024 the company plans to extend its availability to additional European markets.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to meet the expectations of a good many of our more urban customers, who place greater importance on practicality. For all of them, we have launched this new Pro version onto the market with approximately 300 km of range”.
