SsangYong J100, the Korean electric SUV coming soon
Following the unveiling of the SsangYong Korando e-Motion, the Korean brand presents the J100, a larger SUV that will seek its place in the market in 2022

After unveiling the SsangYong Korando e-Motion, the Korean brand is launching a new electric SUV, aimed at a market where the Volkswagen ID.4 will soon be positioned, so that seems to be its immediate target. The new electric model will arrive at some point in 2022 and is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the Korean company.
The SsangYong J100 will be a model positioned slightly above the SsangYong Korando e-Motion, which makes it quite an attractive option for users looking for a mid-size electric SUV. The electric vehicle platform that SsangYong announced for its electric models will not be ready before 2024, so this model is expected to use a modified combustion-engine platform. It will possibly use that of the Korando, which is closer to this model.

Classic exterior
On this occasion, the brand has opted for a classic style with angular shapes and a strong, rugged look. An image designed for off-road use that will appeal to those looking for this type of vehicle, powerful and effective on difficult terrain.
At the front are the light clusters, slim and with a distinctive design, while the slatted grille is reminiscent of those found on several Jeep models. The bumper bottoms and sills are protected by black plastic, which, together with square wheel arches, give it a very muscular look, ideal for its intended purpose.
At the rear are vertical light clusters and a tailgate with the spare wheel mounted on the outside. A spoiler helps improve its aerodynamic behaviour.
Interior with technological equipment
The interior of the SsangYong J100 will feature technology to keep the driver comfortable on board. A large multimedia screen will provide all the services of the information and entertainment system. It will also offer wireless charging for phones and other mobile devices, ambient lighting and Wi-Fi connectivity. In front of the driver there will be a head-up display showing driving information.
It will also feature a package of driver assistance systems, such as lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control and others that will help the driver travel more safely.
And the engine?
That is the big unknown surrounding this model. The engine it will use is not known, although it is expected to be the same powertrain used in the Korando e-Motion, but with a larger battery pack and more powerful motors. These could be two motors, one on each axle, with a combined output equivalent to 189 CV.
