Tesla updates the Roadster with new, powerful batteries

The Tesla Roadster is the car that launched the brand’s career in the electric car market, so we could almost call it a Tesla classic. But since it was the model that kicked off the brand, it is the car receiving upgrades, not to make it more powerful, but to give it more range with the new batteries it has been fitted with.

It is currently discontinued, but with this upgrade it will return to the brand’s line-up, which has opted to build saloons, such as the increasingly popular Tesla Model S. Originally, the Tesla Roadster had a range of 360 kilometres using its batteries and the energy management system, but with these new batteries the range rises to 640 kilometres.

The Roadster stopped production in 2011, and this update will give it a new lease of life over the coming years, during which it will once again be available to enthusiasts of this type of vehicle. If battery life is one of the great handicaps of electric cars, this new version of the Roadster gives a fresh meaning to the experience of driving an electric supercar.

It will keep the same characteristics it had at its origin, but with more range. That means it will have a power output of 248 CV, with acceleration that lets it go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds in its sport version. A car that will have a new life with this new battery and the energy management software.

The question that now arises is whether the Model S will also get this upgrade across all its versions. The answer is that for now, no. The various models on the market will not receive this change for the time being and will keep their current equipment. That said, it is not ruled out that they will soon be updated with this new equipment.
