A 8.4-litre naturally aspirated V10 seems to be the epitome of today’s engine development approach, where efficiency is pursued and built on logic. However, the Dodge Viper, in its third generation, was reportedly removed from the German manufacturer’s lineup according to recently published reports. Dodge, for its part, has denied this information, with a Viper ACR, 13 local circuits across the United States, and the setting of lap records at each of them.

The Dodge Viper is alive and well, as its latest feat demonstrates. With Laguna Seca as a benchmark, the Viper ACR’s thirteen circuit records are a clear sign that the Dodge muscle car has enough firepower to carve out its place in the high-performance sports car segment. Equipped with the Aero Extreme package, the Viper ACR has gone from circuit to circuit, with engineer Chris Winkle at the wheel, setting the fastest lap times.

Dodge, for its part, made sure the records were certified, not only on video but officially, and now boasts that the ACR is the ‘Track King’. “The SCCA has certified that the new Dodge Viper ACR 2016 holds more track records than any other production car in the world,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of the Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat vehicle brands. “We expected our new Viper ACR to be the fastest street Viper on track in the world. Now we know without a doubt that it is.”

The Detroit-based manufacturer states that, despite the many kilometres of track abuse endured by the Dodge Viper ACR, it demonstrated that it can be pushed at all times without fading. “This car was not developed for occasional laps. It can perform at its maximum all day long without the 645 hp generated by its enormous engine fading,” said Kuniskis. Don’t miss the videos below.
