The 7 compacts with the most advanced screen and multimedia system of 2025

Technical analysis of seven compacts sold in Spain with the most advanced infotainment: screen size, operating systems, AI and connectivity.

The C-segment has stopped being a conservative territory when it comes to digital technology. In 2026, the compacts with the most advanced screen and multimedia system compete with premium saloons in screen size, resolution and processing capacity. Android Automotive, proprietary systems based on Linux, conversational AI with integrated language models and OTA updates have displaced the old paradigm of the static MMI. At Highmotor we have put seven models on the table that currently set the benchmark in Spain.

How we have evaluated the infotainment

To determine which models lead in compact infotainment 2026 we have compared six variables: screen size and resolution, base operating system, Google/Apple integration, OTA capability, conversational AI assistant and interface fluidity. We do not reward size alone: a 15-inch screen with slow software scores worse than a 12.3-inch one with a modern architecture.

Volkswagen Golf — from 32,705 €

The eighth-generation Golf facelift debuts the MIB4 system with a 12.9-inch central screen (10.4″ on the base trim) and a 10.2″ digital instrument cluster. The big novelty is the integration of ChatGPT via IDA, Volkswagen’s conversational assistant, which allows contextual queries without leaving navigation. It accepts OTA updates and Wireless Android Auto/CarPlay as standard.

Peugeot 308 — from 25,370 €

The 308 keeps its hallmark i-Cockpit 3D and i-Connect Advanced on a 10-inch touchscreen. The “i-Toggles” customisation layer (configurable shortcuts under the screen) remains one of the most practical in the segment, and TomTom Connected mapping works with real-time data. It allows OTA updates limited to navigation and maps.

Renault Mégane E-Tech — from 34,540 €

It remains the benchmark of the segment. The Mégane E-Tech fits OpenR Link on Android Automotive OS with Google built in from the factory: Maps, Assistant and Play Store native. Its L-shaped layout (12-inch vertical + 12-inch horizontal) offers the largest usable surface of any mid-size compact in Spain, with full OTA updates across all electronic modules.

Cupra León — from 42,340 €

The León debuts a 12.9-inch central screen with the new generation of the VAG Group system, much smoother than the original criticised in 2021. The A-Class is nearing the end of its commercial cycle with second-generation MBUX: dual 10.25-inch screens, a “Hey Mercedes” assistant with contextual learning and augmented reality navigation. Although not the newest on the list, its software maturity keeps it as a reference for stability and voice recognition.

Conclusions by user profile

For the tech-savvy driver, the Mégane E-Tech remains unbeatable thanks to its native Android Automotive. The user who prioritises real conversational AI will find the most advanced integration in the VAG group in the Golf and Cupra León. Those seeking mature premium experience should look at the BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. And if the criterion is price/screen ratio, the Golf with MIB4 offers the best equation on the Spanish market.
