The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio get up to date with slight but well-judged changes

Alfa Romeo keeps moving forward with drive despite the socio-economic situation we are living through due to the coronavirus, and shows us this with this slight update to the new Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Only a few hours ago the Italian brand shared with us the small -but well-judged- improvements it has made to its two flagship models to face this bittersweet 2020. With this premise, we find a saloon and an SUV with a sporty character, ready to shake up the automotive sector with a certain dose of modernity and freshness.

We must acknowledge the shrewdness of Alfa Romeo when it launched these two models, which generated so much anticipation and have hardly disappointed. Nevertheless, far from being satisfied, the brand has decided to tighten the screws a little more on both the Stelvio and the Giulia, especially in their most radical versions, to add a bit more spice to the respective segments in which both compete.

A more modern look

Italians are known for their superb designs, and the Giulia and the Stelvio are clear proof of that ability. For now, Alfa Romeo has not wanted to alter this area too much, but it is true that we find certain changes that allow the image of both offspring to look somewhat more modern and current.

LED rear lights seek to mark that difference from the original model, but one of the highlights of this update is found in its colour palette. The Italian firm has expanded the personalisation options for the Giulia and the Stelvio with up to 10 new shades, but one of them will be available only for the Quadrifoglio versions, the so-called Verde Montreal.

An interior up to the mark

The cabin has also been modified by the engineers at Alfa Romeo, who have placed special emphasis on the technology area. Now, both the Stelvio and the Giulia will offer a new 8.8-inch touchscreen in charge of representing an improved infotainment system.

The centre console has also undergone slight changes, offering a new gear selector knob and buttons with a better finish. Of course, carbon fibre becomes an essential material to accentuate the interior of the Quadrifoglio, models that also offer more personalisation in the seats and in the colour of the seatbelts, which can be red or black.

Driving aids to make you safer

Alfa Romeo has not wanted to overlook one of the most important areas of any vehicle: safety. The Italian house has now improved this aspect thanks to various driving aids that not only make the task of travelling in one of its vehicles easier, but also look after the safety of its occupants.

The renewed Giulia and Stelvio now feature systems such as traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, intelligent speed control and driver fatigue detection, among others. In this way, and thanks to the ADAS system they incorporate, both models offer a level 2 autonomy.

Same power but with an improved soundtrack

For now, Alfa Romeo continues to rely on the same heart that already powered the Stelvio and Giulia Quadrifoglio, namely a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 capable of producing a staggering 510 CV and 600 Nm of torque. Thanks to these figures, the Stelvio can reach 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds while the Giulia does so in 3.9 seconds.

However, the Italian house now offers as an option an exhaust system signed by Akrapovič, which will make the song of that V6 even more superb. The tailpipes are finished in carbon fibre and promise an unprecedented soundtrack.
