The Aston Martin DB11 armored takes

Armoring for cars is usually designed for more powerful and robust vehicles, although Trasco has created a lightweight version for this luxury model

When we talk about armored cars, we almost always think of large vehicles. Possibly this is because buyers of armored cars prefer robust SUVs, with engines powerful enough to get the vehicle out of any place it ends up. There are also many models of large, luxurious saloons for executives, also with powerful engines but designed for city driving. So seeing an armored supercar is not something that is usually very common, above all because of the extra weight that comes with armoring capable of protecting the occupants. Until this armored Aston Martin DB11 arrived and left us amazed.

The Aston Martin DB11 you see in the photos was manufactured by armored-vehicle specialist Trasco, based in Bremen. The ultra-luxury coupé has been fitted with lightweight armoring called A-Kip, short for Anti-Kidnapping, that is, anti-kidnap. It may not be designed to stop the bullets of an assault rifle, but it has been designed to stand up to a possible kidnapping, a theft of items from the interior, or the theft of the car itself.

The Aston Martin DB11 has achieved level 4 armoring, without losing one of the advantages of supercars, which is lightness and low weight. The surprise is that this security variant of the British car has only gained 150 kg compared with the standard DB11. According to the manufacturer, this weight increase does not affect the car’s performance significantly.

That is because we are talking about a car fitted with a V12 engine delivering 600 CV and a maximum torque of 700 Nm, so that loss of performance would be noticeable on a circuit but not on the road. And we don’t think this type of armoring is needed on a circuit. Trasco assures that this type of lightweight armoring can be added to any model and does not change the car’s appearance, so it is very discreet on the street. Well, as discreet as a Aston Martin DB11 can be.

The car is called the Trasco JamesEdition, a name that needs little explanation… As we see in the images, the only difference visible at first glance is the thickness of the glass, which can easily go unnoticed. The price of this lightweight A-Kip armoring has not been announced, but let’s be realistic. It sits on a Aston Martin DB11, so we can imagine it won’t be cheap, and putting it on a Golf would not be a good idea. Still, this model is impressive, and it is certainly not for the armoring.
