The best way to explain the evolution of the Honda Civic through a video
The Honda Civic is one of the longest-running models in the brand’s history. Thanks to this video, we can see its evolution over the last 45 years of life.

The car has taken giant steps in recent years thanks to the great technology within our reach. However, this would not have been possible without the first cars, which devoted their lives to serving as the foundation for creating some of the most iconic models of all time. The Honda Civic holds one of these places, and today we are going to review its journey through the world from its birth to the present day thanks to this video by Donut Media.
It was in 1973 that the first generation of the Civic came to light and, after 45 years of life, the Japanese company has had plenty of room to create a great product. The success of the Japanese compact has been so great that today Honda has ten generations of this model, making it one of the longest-running in the brand’s history.
Honda Civic first generation: the beginning of a long saga
As we have mentioned, 1973 was the year in which Honda presented the Civic. It was born as a two-door coupé, but the company did not take long to update it with a three-door hatchback variant, a body style the Civic faithfully kept for several generations. It came with a 50 CV engine paired with what the company called Hondamatic, a two-speed automatic gearbox.

This generation of the Civic marked a before and after, proving to be a great car right from the start. It earned the Car of the Year title in Japan and enjoyed strong recognition in the United States, a country where Honda enjoys considerable success.
Honda Civic sixth generation: unconditional love
The first five generations of the Civic kept the success of that original 1973 version steady, but it was with the sixth that all the established norms were broken. It was launched in 1996 and, 22 years later, it remains one of the most acclaimed and sought-after generations among motoring enthusiasts.

Inside, it had a small 1.4-litre engine producing 89 CV, which rose to 185 CV in the Type R, although that was only available in the Japanese market. Its main appeal lay in the different body styles this version offered, especially the coupé, whose appeal was considerably enhanced.
Honda Civic tenth generation: the legacy continues
45 years later, the Civic still stands, being the most efficient and versatile version ever created. It abandons the hatchback body and adopts the look of a small saloon. The Japanese company reduced the displacement of the engines in this latest generation and increased power, aiming to build a car with much lower consumption.

It offers a 1.0-litre engine capable of producing 129 CV, making it one of the most logical choices for tackling everyday driving in any circumstance. At the same time, Honda has not forgotten its more hardcore customers and the Type R variant is also available, offering 320 CV.
