The BMW 225xe Active Tourer comes with a 10.0 kWh battery and 57 km of range

The new BMW 225xe Active Tourer offers a range of up to 57 kilometres. Its battery now has a capacity of 10.0 kWh.

The Bavarian brand has equipped the BMW 225xe Active Tourer plug-in hybrid with its new state-of-the-art battery cell technology, which aims to improve the efficiency of the MPV and its all-electric driving range.

The lithium-ion battery in the new BMW 225xe Active Tourer now has a gross energy content of 10.0 kWh, compared with 7.7 kWh previously. It can be fully charged in approximately five hours from conventional domestic sockets using the standard-equipment charging cable, or in 3:15 hours with the optional BMW i Wallbox.

Equipped with the new battery, the BMW 225xe Active Tourer can cover between 55 and 57 kilometres in fully electric mode, representing a 25% increase over the previous version.

The plug-in hybrid model is now also 15% more efficient, as average fuel consumption drops to 1.7-1.9 litres per 100 km, along with a reduction in combined energy consumption to 20.1-18.5 kWh per 100 kilometres according to the WLTP homologation cycle. In addition, CO2 figures have also been reduced to 47-42 g.

As before, the plug-in hybrid system of the new MPV uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 136 CV, which drives the front wheels through a six-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox.

The internal combustion engine is assisted by an 88 CV electric motor that drives the rear axle, giving the 225xe Active Tourer a combined system output of 224 CV and AWD capability. This allows the plug-in hybrid model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 km/h. In purely electric driving mode, the 225xe Active Tourer can reach speeds of up to 131 km/h.

The German brand’s plug-in hybrid model is available as the Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport versions, with all optional extras available for the aligned facelifted BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. BMW plug-in hybrid drive systems already offer users a number of additional benefits over traditional solutions.

According to the brand itself, one of the main benefits is cost savings: electric driving in urban areas is cheaper than running on petrol or diesel if the plug-in hybrid is charged at home or at the workplace at low cost. The interior is always pre-conditioned; the auxiliary heating and auxiliary air conditioning are fitted as standard”.

The model features regenerative braking. In conventional vehicles, braking generates only heat and brake dust. “Plug-in hybrids deliver the pleasure of electric driving in urban areas and the classic driving pleasure of BMW over longer distances. Because a plug-in hybrid can run with zero emissions, it is eligible to enter many low-emission zones, enjoys additional parking privileges and saves on toll fees”.
