The BYD Seagull surprises: 10,000 bookings in China in just 24 hours
The small city car from the Chinese brand has begun its commercialization and has achieved a milestone, as 10,000 people have expressed interest in it.

News keeps coming in from the Shanghai Auto Show, an event that had gone three years without being held and has returned with force. Many Asian brands have presented their novelties, and it seems the commitment to electric mobility is becoming increasingly important. The BYD Seagull is a small electric city car that will offer the possibility of getting around the city with a very attractive and, above all, economical vehicle.
What this model offers seems to have been very attractive to Chinese users, so they were encouraged, and as soon as bookings opened, a large volume of purchases was achieved. According to the brand, 10,000 orders were registered in the first 24 hours of bookings. A figure that is quite impressive and that demonstrates the interest it has sparked among Chinese drivers.

An affordable electric city car
This electric car is based on the brand’s 3.0 platform, as are the two new models from the brand, the Dolphin and the Seal. It uses a single electric motor, which delivers a power of 55 kW, that is, 74 CV, sent to the front axle. As for the battery, it is offered in two variants, both with LFP technology.
The entry-level battery has a capacity of 30 kWh, which allows it to travel about 308 kilometres on a charge under the CLTC cycle. The second battery offers 38 kWh, so the distance rises to 405 kilometres, under the same homologation cycle. The batteries allow DC charging, so they can use fast chargers and reach 80% in just 30 minutes.
The BYD Seagull is designed for city driving, so it is very small, with a length of just 3.78 metres, a width of 1.71 metres and a wheelbase of 2.5 metres. The equipment is quite complete, and the most interesting thing is the price. This is surely the main argument that has led to such a number of bookings. The BYD Seagull costs, at the current exchange rate, 10,000 euros. We don’t know whether it will reach Europe, as part of the BYD offensive in the European market, but it would be good news.
