The EAT8 automatic gearbox is now available in the SUVs from Peugeot

The Peugeot SUVs, the 3008 and 5008, aim to stay at the top of the highly competitive SUV market in Spain, and now improve their equipment by offering the option of a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, available right now on any of the models.

This new gearbox, called EAT8, was developed with the Japanese component specialist Aisin, and promises Peugeot a very high level of comfort. This is achieved by optimising torque transfer between the engine and the gearbox, reducing rpm jumps at each gear change, while the flexible torque converter ensures smoothness when pulling away and during parking manoeuvres.

Also, to give a more exclusive yet ergonomic design for everyday use, a new electronic gear selector has been fitted, Shift and Park by Wire. The steering wheel also features paddle shifters, standard with this transmission, which allow manual gear changes while keeping the automatic function. It is worth noting that the Park function is engaged automatically once the engine is switched off.

As a slightly “negative” note, this gearbox can only be fitted to the GT versions of the 3008 and 5008. This means it is paired with the BlueHDi 180 diesel engine, a 2.0-litre unit delivering 180 CV and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. We cannot provide fuel consumption figures for this gearbox as they are not yet available; we can only say that CO2 emissions for both models are 129 g/km.

The arrival of the EAT8 gearbox does not change the rest of the equipment on the Peugeot 3008 GT and 5008 GT, which, incidentally, stands out for being very complete, including features such as the new generation Peugeot i-Cockpit, made up of the compact steering wheel and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a Head-Up display.

As mentioned at the beginning, this gearbox can now be fitted to our new Peugeot SUVs, at a starting price of 38,350 euros for the Peugeot 3008 GT BlueHDi 180 EAT 8, while for the Peugeot 5008 GT BlueHDi 180 EAT 8 the starting price is 40,200 euros.
