The first electric MINI will be as powerful as the petrol Cooper S
The Mini Cooper S E will fit the same motor and battery as the BMW i3 S.
The first 100% electric model from MINI will not be an ordinary zero-emission car; it will be a highly innovative high-performance vehicle. According to Autocar magazine, the Mini Cooper S E will be unveiled this same year and will use the same UKL 1 platform used by the standard (combustion) MINI Cooper.
Performance similar to the petrol MINI Cooper S

Everything points to the Mini Cooper S E fitting the same electric motor as the BMW i3 S, a motor that produces 181 CV of power and that would bring it close to the figures of the petrol-engined Mini Cooper S: 189 CV. The extra weight caused by the battery is expected to be offset by the instant power delivery of the electric model (maximum torque available from 0 rpm), which would make the Cooper S E as quick as its combustion-engined sibling (Cooper S).
Battery shared with the BMW i3S: 300 km of range
In terms of battery, the Cooper S E is also expected to share the same unit fitted to the BMW i3 S, which would give the electric MINI a range of about 300 km.

The first prototype of the MINI Cooper S E was unveiled in 2017 with a rather futuristic look. However, the production model is expected to resemble the petrol Cooper S even more. In any case, the car would include a series of distinctive elements that would show its eco-friendly nature.

The official presentation of the Mini Cooper S E could take place during the celebration of the British brand’s 60th anniversary, a perfect moment to open a new chapter in the history of one of the most important names in the automotive industry. The sales of the MINI Cooper S E are expected to begin in Europe towards the end of the year.
