The fourth generation of the Suzuki Swift is ready to keep causing a stir

The fourth generation of the Suzuki Swift brings a completely new design, the latest safety and multimedia systems for this category, and a new 1.2 petrol engine with MHEV technology across the entire range.

Suzuki Swift 5

With this one, unveiled worldwide, the Suzuki Swift has now reached its fourth generation. It is a city car that does not change its essence and remains a practical car that prioritises efficiency and ease of driving, but its style does change, evolving with a design that aims to convey greater sophistication and elegance. And at least from the first images, without having seen it in person, what can I say, I preferred the exterior design of the outgoing generation… Here is our latest road test of the third-generation Swift, in this case in the more than fun and interesting Swift Sport version, which we hope will continue in this new generation.

I won’t say much more about the design that you can’t see in the images, except that the colour range includes 9 options, four of them two-tone, with some new ones such as Frontier Blue Pearl and Cool Yellow, both metallic. Both appear in the images.

Inside, we can expect the magnificent use of space that Suzuki has shown it knows how to achieve. The new design, with a wraparound dashboard combining grey and light tones, and the new 9-inch high-definition touchscreen with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto undoubtedly achieve that sought-after look of greater sophistication, despite this being a city car. Among the safety systems this new Swift incorporates, the brake assist DSBS (Dual Sensor Brake Support) stands out, based on a video camera and radar, which applies more braking force if necessary to help stop the vehicle in the event of an imminent collision. A novelty in the range is the Driver Monitoring System, which uses a camera that monitors the driver’s eyes and sounds an alarm if it detects that they are falling asleep or no longer paying attention to the road.

The Suzuki Connect services, introduced in 2021 on the S-Cross, keep the vehicle connected and allow users to control various functions from the dedicated smartphone app, many of which are now also available from the car’s own screen.

1.2 engine with mild hybridisation and AllGrip 4×4 four-wheel drive

For this new generation of the Swift, Suzuki has developed its 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which in all versions will feature the brand’s SHVS 12-volt mild hybrid system. As a result, it promises to further improve consumption and emissions, with a more linear power delivery and greater pulling power from low speeds. And there will be no shortage of 4×4 versions with the Suzuki AllGrip Auto system, which uses a viscous coupling to automatically connect the rear axle when the front wheels are detected to be losing grip.
