With this launch, GAC aims to consolidate its presence in the European market, where the Aion V SUV is already on sale in some countries.

The Chinese manufacturer GAC has begun marketing its new urban electric car in Europe, the Aion UT. The first deliveries will begin this same quarter in Finland, Greece, Poland and Portugal, while in the rest of European markets it will be available during the third quarter of the year.

The starting price of the Aion UT in the Old Continent is €27,990, although this figure may vary slightly depending on the country. Like its bigger sibling, the Aion V, this model is assembled at the Magna Steyr plant located in the Austrian town of Graz. The Chinese manufacturer has opted to equip the European version of this model with a battery pack with LFP cells supplied by Farasis Energy.

GAC has been preparing its arrival in Europe for some time. During the IAA Mobility held last September, the Chinese manufacturer showed the European version of the Aion UT, which was very well received by attendees at this event. The company even carried out road driving tests for members of the motoring press.

A tough nut to crack

With dimensions of 4.27 metres long and a wheelbase of 2.75 metres, the GAC Aion UT is an essentially urban electric car. Equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack that allows it to travel up to 430 km on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle, this model nevertheless has enough range to make the occasional medium-distance trip.

When recharging, GAC claims the vehicle can increase its state of charge from 30 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes.

The Aion UT, whose name refers to Urban Traffic, is built on a dedicated electric platform and offers a 440-litre boot. Inside, the large 14.6-inch central screen stands out, accompanied by an 8.9-inch digital instrument cluster. According to the manufacturer, it meets the highest safety standards and features Level 2 semi-autonomous driving.

GAC will market this model in two trim levels: Premium and Luxury. The brand is working to develop a network of dealerships and service workshops in Europe through new partnerships, aware that both price and after-sales service will be key factors in its success.
