The Honda NSX could have an all-electric version with four motors for better performance

Based on the Aura EV Concept, which takes part in the Pikes Peak event, the new NSX could have a fully electric version from 2023 onwards

The Honda NSX has just arrived on the market, but the next generation is already being considered, which could feature a fully electric version. This NSX will be powered by a battery, which will send its energy to four motors that will deliver outstanding performance for this model, which would presumably arrive after 2023.

The reason for this date must be sought in the evolution that battery technology is undergoing in recent years, and what may arrive within a few months in that regard. Either way, the model has only been on the road for a few months, and we are still waiting for a Type-R version and a convertible, so we will have news about this model for several years.

The statements to Autocar by Sekino Yosuke, head of development at Honda, during the presentation of the Acura EV Concept, which is based on the NSX and will be the brand’s car taking part in this year’s climb of Pikes Peak, suggest performance beyond everything we expected. Specifically, it has been said that those four motors could deliver an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reach 200 km/h in 6.5, truly spectacular figures.

The competition car offers similar figures, but the brand announces that a production model designed for the road will have some substantial difference from the 1000 CV car that already took part in last year’s Pikes Peak event. Although the configuration of four independent motors, each on one wheel, would be maintained. This allows each wheel to accelerate or decelerate independently, achieving better control thanks to specific treatment.

All the technology applied in this competition model could be applied to a production car, in the form of a supercar, of course. The studies are aimed at taking advantage of the electric propulsion system in a production version, although to achieve it, its weight would probably have to be increased and some of the characteristics that make this car a milestone would have to change. Will we see it arrive one day? For now, you can see some images of the Acura EV Concept, to get an idea of what this car could be.
