The Infiniti Prototype 10 is finally unveiled at Pebble Beach

Infiniti returns to Pebble Beach, this time to unveil the Prototype 10, the concept that previews the electric future of the Japanese brand

Infiniti has once again been present at another edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, this time to officially present the recently announced Prototype 10. Karim Habib, Infiniti’s new chief design executive, has taken the lead in creating the Prototype 10, a concept for which the brand has drawn on the design of iconic models from automotive history to shape a prototype inspired by the early Californian speedsters.

It is logically reminiscent of the classic speedsters, but its design has been redefined to convey elegance and futurism at all times, the latter being a very important characteristic, as the Prototype 10 looks entirely towards the electrification that will take place in the automotive industry and especially at Infiniti, a brand that will incorporate these features into its future models yet to arrive.

The Infiniti Prototype 10 begins as a design evolution of another past concept from the brand, the Q Inspiration Concept, which was a elongated saloon with coupé-like styling that now evolves into a single-seat, electrically powered speedster. The Prototype 10 features clear, straight lines with abrupt shapes that stand out for offering a clean design that breaks with the fluid character of other prototypes, created to express the electric power this concept can deliver.

These lines originate at the front and gradually blend together, running across the cabin and producing the same effect on the fin that supports and protects the driver’s head, merging with the front lines into the rear deck, whose design is similar to that of the Q Inspiration Concept. Various aerodynamic elements are present on the exterior of the Prototype 10, such as the black front splitter, which increases front vertical pressure and channels air towards the important flat underbody it incorporates, ultimately being channelled out by the discreet and subtle rear diffuser.

The interior design of the Infiniti Prototype 10 is inspired, as it could hardly be otherwise given its exterior styling, by racing single-seaters. Its cabin features only a seat upholstered in black leather with contrasting red stitching, a four-point harness, the pedals for the brake and accelerator, and the steering wheel, inspired by racing vehicles and mounted on carbon-fibre supports that rise from the bodywork.

Another of the mysteries still left to reveal about the Infiniti Prototype 10 was its propulsion system, which was an open secret that it would be electric, making it a flagship alongside the Q Inspiration Concept for the brand’s electric future. However, the Prototype 10 will not boast a spectacular electric motor; instead, it presents an Infiniti design exercise that showcases the brand’s potential to adopt modular platforms with a low ride height for all its new electric vehicles, which can be adapted to chassis of different sizes for saloons, sports cars or SUVs.
