One of the big problems we encounter when driving at night is the use of high beams. Both the use of this type of light by other drivers, which dazzles us, and its use by ourselves, in which case we are the ones causing glare for other drivers. Manufacturers are aware of these kinds of problems and propose different solutions that allow us to avoid such dazzling.

Ford has developed a lighting system that seeks to prevent that glare without losing for a moment all the lighting needed to keep driving safely and without risks. To do this, future Ford models will use a combination of intelligent LED lights and a system of cameras mounted on the windscreen that detect the presence of car lights in front of ours, both those coming towards us and those ahead of the car.

The system deactivates the groups of diodes that could be annoying to the vehicle in front of ours, preventing glare that would put driving safety at risk. In this way, the Dynamic LED lighting system from Ford helps keep the beam of light focused on the road ahead and switches off the part that lights up the oncoming lane, where light is not needed at that moment.

This action is performed about ten times faster than a person could manage, which makes it very practical and effective. This system will prevent drivers from having to use dipped beams, which can prove insufficient on country roads, something that is often done to avoid bothering other drivers.

The American company is developing improvements to this type of lighting, with a focus on driving through junctions, roundabouts and other places where it is essential to have lighting that avoids problems while driving. For now, this type of lighting is included on the Ford S-Max and the Galaxy, and will also be available in the future on the brand’s SUV, the Edge.
