Emeya Lotus Electric Cars Coupés
The Lotus Emeya is already ready for series production after passing a rigorous testing phase
The Lotus Emeya will reach the Chinese market next March, and it is expected to hit European roads before the end of the year
With the aim of making the first deliveries at the beginning of 2024, the engineering team at Lotus began testing the Emeya several years ago. Lotus’s first all-electric GT has been on the move throughout this time across a total of 15 countries on two different continents, covering the German autobahns, the mountain tracks of Mongolia and the German Nürburgring circuit.
Some of the locations chosen during the testing phase were picked for the challenge their weather conditions posed. The Emeya has thus proven capable of withstanding temperatures of 40 degrees in the desert, but also -25 degrees in the Arctic Circle. In fact, the tests were so rigorous that the engineers at Lotus found even this was not enough, so they put the Emeya in a freezer at -40 degrees Celsius.

According to the company, the results obtained from all these tests have been extremely positive, and that is why the brand’s engineers are convinced that the Emeya is already ready to be taken into series production. This conclusion was reached after rigorously verifying that the performance of the suspension, the steering, the battery pack and even the tyres, among other components, is as expected.
The moment of truth has arrived: its market launch
Looking ahead, Lotus says it will continue carrying out specific tests in markets such as the Middle East, the United States and Australia, where the Emeya will also be sold in the near future. Initially, the new Lotus GT will arrive in the Chinese market in just over a month, with availability expanding to other markets towards the end of this same year.
The Lotus Emeya will thus be the second fully electric model in the British manufacturer’s range, after starting production of the Eletre luxury electric SUV in 2022. Lotus has fully committed to electric mobility and intends to use Geely’s production plant in the Chinese city of Wuhan to bring up to 150,000 vehicles a year to market from 2028.

The Emeya is just one more step towards reaching that ambitious goal. Originally known as a prototype called Type 133, this new four-door electric coupé from the British manufacturer was unveiled last year with a specification sheet that had nothing to envy from those of its rivals.
