The Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series is running laps at the Nürburgring to fine-tune its final details

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series is already testing at the Nürburgring, a sign that we will soon see all of its details.

The wait is nearly over. Mercedes-AMG is about to bring the Black Series name back into its family, something this test mule confirms. Several people have spotted the Hulk flexing its muscles around the Nürburgring, with a much more aggressive look, more refined aerodynamics, and a camouflage wrap designed to keep us from discovering its true identity. Given all this, everything points to the star brand fine-tuning the last details of the imminent AMG GT R Black Series, the most radical version of the German supercar.

This time, Mercedes-AMG has decided to take things more calmly and has opted to develop more restrained versions, represented by the 35 and 53 badges. However, the genuine AMG GT is set to become the proud bearer of a name that not long ago was used for some of the brand’s most iconic models.

In this way, it would be quite possible for other vehicles under the AMG umbrella to also carry the Black Series designation. However, it seems that for now only the flagship will be the top representative of this Mercedes performance division, which will modify the supercar’s styling, mechanical, and aerodynamic elements.

Despite the camouflage on the vehicle before us today, we can make out a number of very revealing details. At first glance, we notice an even more aggressive and imposing front end, an effect made possible by the side canards on the AMG GT. But it is the rear that sheds the most light on the mysteries of this supposed Black Series thanks to an imposing spoiler and a more aggressive diffuser.

Mechanically, we can expect the AMG GT R Black Series to keep the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Not surprisingly, total output could rise from 585 CV to more than 600, with the aim of confronting rivals such as the Lamborghini Huracán Performante or the upcoming Porsche 911 Turbo more firmly.

It is still premature to confirm details about this souped-up version of the German supercar, but it is not far-fetched to think it will debut at the next Geneva Motor Show. This is how Mercedes-AMG returns to the fray with great force and ready to dethrone any rival that has usurped the title of king of kings from the GT R.
