The new Africa Twin 2020 will be more powerful and will have a 1,084 cc engine
The new Honda Africa Twin 2020 will be much more powerful and could be unveiled during the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, which takes place in October.
The next premium adventure tourer from Honda, the next-generation Africa Twin, will have a displacement of 1,084 cc. A report also confirms the increase in output for the 2020 Africa Twin.
Some sources add that a new regulatory filing in Australia has confirmed that the 1,084 cc engine of the 2020 Honda Africa Twin will produce 101 CV of power. By comparison, the 998 cc engine of the current-generation Honda Africa Twin produces 94 CV. Besides the mechanical changes, the larger and more powerful Honda Africa Twin will also receive several cosmetic changes.
The headlights are now perfectly integrated into the fairing. In addition, the frame and subframe will be new. However, the windscreen may be smaller than the current version. To meet the upcoming Euro 5 emissions standards, the 2020 Honda Africa Twin will also get a larger exhaust canister. The top-spec adventure sports variant will continue to get a larger fuel tank and a tougher skid plate.
2020 Africa Twin, now with direct injection
The Honda Africa Twin will also get direct injection to further reduce tailpipe emissions. The digital instrumentation will be retained, although with few changes. The DCT should remain optional internationally but standard in India.
Another very attractive yet highly practical feature of the Honda Africa Twin is its adjustable seat height. We expect this to carry over to the MY2020 model. In addition, we would love to see a smart key with keyless ignition on the new motorcycle.
Besides the 2020 Africa Twin, Honda is working on an update for the CBR1000RR. The flagship sports bike is expected to receive V-TEC technology.

In July, Honda released a video showing a new “True Adventure” model, which was expected to be an improved Africa Twin CRF1100L. Thanks to new vehicle certification documents published in Australia, it can be confirmed that the 2020 Honda Africa Twin will have a 1084cc engine, a choice of manual or dual-clutch transmissions, and will be offered in both standard and Adventure versions. According to the documents, the 1084cc engine produces 101 hp at 7,500 rpm, while the previous 998cc engine is certified at 94 hp.
The CRF1100L keeps a similar style to the CRF1000L, its face looks more aerodynamic. The dual headlight design remains, but is now more integrated into the fairing instead of the spectacle look of the previous model. The current Africa Twin has air intakes on both sides of the headlights, but the intakes on the new model are much smaller and lower, hidden on the inner side of the fairing. The 2020 Africa Twin’s windscreen appears smaller than the previous model, although the Adventure version offers a larger screen.

Honda released its teaser video at the end of July, but we are likely to see nothing more than other teasers until the Tokyo Motor Show in late October at the earliest, or more likely, at EICMA in November.
