Daimler's CEO has confirmed that they are working on fully electric AMG models
Mercedes-AMG, according to its CEO, will build fully electric sports cars. In addition, everything points to the Mercedes-Benz EQS having an AMG variant.

The sports division of Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, offers a range of electrified models, including the Mercedes-AMG CLS 53, the Mercedes-AMG E53 and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53. Now, the brand with the star has confirmed that the fully electric models developed by Affalterbach will also be aimed at the general public.
Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler, has stated that “we have to reach the point where the means of propulsion are no longer considered important, because AMG is about the customer experience. That is why we are starting to work not only on electrified AMGs, but also on our first fully electric AMG.”

Källenius did not say which model would become the first to receive an electric AMG variant, but previous reports have suggested that the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS would be a possible candidate. The fully electric saloon was recently seen in concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Rumours suggest the new Mercedes-Benz EQS could get an AMG variant producing more than 610 CV. There is nothing to sniff at, but the Porsche Taycan Turbo 2020 has two electric motors producing up to 680 CV. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is even more extreme, with 761 CV in Overboost mode.

Mercedes-AMG will also offer fully electric models
Regardless of what Mercedes-AMG has planned for the future, its upcoming electric vehicles should be more popular than the Mercedes-AMG SLS Electric Drive. The company is believed to have sold fewer than 100 units of the limited-edition electric sports car in 2013, which featured four motors producing an impressive 750 CV and 1,000 Nm of maximum torque. This allowed the supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds before reaching a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The model was briefly the fastest production electric sports car in the world. However, its range was limited to 257 kilometres on the official test cycle, and it was greatly reduced if the car’s performance was used to the full.

Mercedes-AMG SLS Electric Drive, here are its details
It has a kerb weight of 2110 kg, about 560 kg more than its conventional gullwing sibling with a combustion engine. That is thanks to its high-tech 60kWh lithium-ion battery, supplied by the Mercedes-Benz high-performance engine division in Brixworth, which weighs just 548 kg.
Get on board and, yes, it is immediately obvious that the SLS Electric Drive is fast. However, what Mercedes-Benz’s official performance claims don’t convey is the brutal nature of the acceleration, which comes courtesy of four individual synchronous electric motors. The high-tech zero-local-emissions powertrain gives the SLS Electric Drive violent thrust, both from a standstill and on the run. It only needs a light, firmly applied push on the accelerator to reach the kind of speed limits set in the UK.
An advanced power electronics system controls traction levels and uses a torque vectoring system on each axle to juggle accordingly. The result is unmatched levels of agility and, if you’re up for it, a hair-raising oversteer.
