The new Audi TT scores four stars in Euro NCAP

The third generation of the TT went on sale in 2014, and, to everyone’s surprise, it did so without a Euro NCAP rating, so it has now been through all kinds of tests to earn a four-star Euro NCAP rating.
It does not achieve five stars because it lacks some of the latest technologies, such as autonomous emergency braking. This safety feature is becoming more and more common, and it is currently available on many other models from the brand.
The Audi TT is the first car tested by Euro NCAP under the new 2015 rating rules, which use new and updated test protocols and dummies, such as a new full-width frontal rigid barrier test, to complement the frontal offset deformable barrier test.
The tests also include a small woman as the driver and rear passenger. In recent years, structures have become more rigid, which has helped reduce injuries to the lower legs and made the rear passenger compartment less likely to collapse.
However, greater structural rigidity also means greater decelerations that must be managed by the restraint systems in the front and rear seats during a crash. These decelerations can cause serious injuries, especially to the chest of the most vulnerable occupants, such as smaller people or the elderly.
Finally, if you want more information about this type of test, do not hesitate to visit the Euro NCAP website, where you can find out how many stars your own car has (if it is not too old).
