The new Volkswagen Amarok will be developed jointly with Ford, and we will get to know it next year
The new Volkswagen Amarok will be built in South Africa in collaboration with Ford and will arrive in Europe at the end of 2022.

The new Volkswagen Amarok will be developed together with the Ford Ranger at the plant the brand with the rings owns in Silverton, South Africa. The new generation of the Volkswagen Amarok will reach the market next year and, as the German brand itself has confirmed, it will have a “clear Volkswagen DNA”, even though it is developed in collaboration with Ford.
The new Volkswagen Amarok is being developed together with the new Ford Ranger. Both pick-ups will be built at the plant the brand with the rings owns in Silverton, South Africa. The two companies entered into a collaboration agreement called the “global alliance” in 2019, which included the production of commercial vehicles and electric cars. The future Volkswagen Amarok will become the first model launched as a result of the initiative. In addition, the German brand describes it as “a major strategic step”.

Everything we know about the new Volkswagen Amarok
Now, Volkswagen has just published two more concept images of the new Volkswagen Amarok. These two images allude to both the exterior and interior design. The German company promises that the pick-up will have “a completely new look”. In turn, the manufacturer has indicated that it will offer wider equipment options than its previous generation. The new Amarok 2022 will have new driver assistance features and connectivity options.
Albert-Johann Kirzinger, head of design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, has assured that the new Volkswagen Amarok will have a new front end that follows the X Design pattern and will clearly distinguish the new Amarok, and will “emphasize its claim to leadership”. “We have given the new Volkswagen Amarok strength and power, offering an unmistakable expression, with a clear Volkswagen DNA inside and out.”
The new Volkswagen Amarok will be unveiled at the beginning of next year, 2022, before going on sale in some markets. It is planned to launch in Europe at the end of 2022. The latest sketch of the new generation of the pick-up was shown as part of the annual conference of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. It also reveals that the vehicle is set to adopt a much bolder and more aggressive design, similar to what we have seen on the latest Volkswagen Touareg. In turn, the wheel arches recall the Volkswagen Atlas.

It should be noted that it will be based on the modular platform used in the Ford Ranger. Cost savings will be key to ensuring that the German brand’s commercial vehicle division reduces its expenses and adapts to new market benchmarks. Ford has invested almost 800 million euros to prepare its Silverton factory to build both models at a rate of 200,000 units per year.
The factory expansion will create 1,200 new jobs and 10,000 new positions across the entire supply chain, according to Ford. The company aims to bring the Silverton facilities to “island mode” by 2024, establishing a series of efficiency-increasing measures with the goal of fully disconnecting from the grid. The agreement between Ford and Volkswagen also includes a van based on the Ford Transit platform.
