The Nissan LEAF has reached 250 thousand units produced at the Sunderland plant

In 2013 the Nissan LEAF arrived on the market, a small electric car that has become one of the most popular models in its segment. Today, the second generation of the model is in force, and it is expected to cease production in 2025. That year it is expected to be replaced by a new model and to stop rolling off the assembly line at the Sunderland plant.

But until that moment arrives, the number of units that have left this plant has reached 250,000 units. This is a sign that the Nissan LEAF has become a very popular car, purchased by many drivers around the world. The success of the first generation allowed the second version of the car to arrive in 2017, which increased the range and improved the model’s characteristics.

A successful model

The Nissan LEAF has reached 250,000 units produced in just under 10 years. This is a milestone which, according to Alan Johnson, Vice President of Production at the Nissan plant in Sunderland, demonstrates the capability of this plant and of all the operators involved in producing the model. In fact, production of the new versions of the Qashqai and the Juke, both electrified, has already begun.

To celebrate this milestone, the Sunderland plant has decided that the 250 thousandth unit of the Nissan LEAF will be used as a power source for the lights of the large Christmas tree installed at the plant. This is possible thanks to Vehicle-to-Grid technology, which enables bidirectional charging, that is, transferring the battery charge to power external devices.

These last units of the model, which will reach a slightly higher figure, will give way to a model about which not much is yet known. It is expected to be an electric crossover, although everything related to this new project is being developed in secret and there is no information yet.
