It is not an event of great international significance nor one with a particular weight in the automotive industry, but winning an award at the Automotive Interiors EXPO 2013 means something. Especially for the Opel Adam, which has already won other awards in the fields of innovation and design.

On this occasion, the compact SUV took the award for best interior design in a production vehicle, a more than deserved accolade considering that its closest rivals at the show were vehicles of the calibre of the Alfa 4C, the Jaguar F-Type, the Renault Clio and the new Range Rover.

The award was given based on production vehicles launched in the last 12 months and on those cabin designs nominated for having innovated in design and appeal for passengers. The person in charge of designing the interior of the Adam, Elizabeth Wetzel, came close to also winning the award for best designer, but in the end the brilliant Ian Callum beat her to it and earned the prize.

On the other hand, the Renault took home two awards: the one for best interior design in a concept and the award for interior technological innovation that could reach the market in the near future, thanks to the electric swivel seats in some concepts and their originality, such as those of the Renault R-Space, inspired by a couple’s embrace.
