The Peugeot 2008 achieves an ECO label with the new Hybrid version
Peugeot now includes in its 208 and 2008 models new 48V MHEV hybrid powertrains with power outputs of up to 136 CV, which earn the DGT ECO label, offer good performance and very restrained consumption figures.
Electrification at different levels has reached the entire Peugeot range, except for the 508. The reason is that this saloon is already in the final phase of its life cycle, and developing a new hybridised powertrain would not justify the investment given the sales volume it achieves.

The new 1.2 MHEV three-cylinder petrol engines, which have already arrived in other Stellantis models, are available in a 100 CV version for the Peugeot 208, and in 136 CV for the 2008 and 2008.
Up to one kilometre in electric mode
The engine used in both cases is the same, although the electronic management has a different software tuning, and in the Peugeot 2008 only the 136 CV engine is linked to the GT trim. It is a 1.2 three-cylinder petrol engine, with a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1,750 rpm, combined with a 21 kW electric motor and an e-DSC6 dual-clutch gearbox. This is powered by a 48V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 0.9 kWh.

As with the Fiat 600 Hybrid, the system is capable of propelling the vehicle for approximately one kilometre without needing to start the combustion engine, carrying out parking manoeuvres, providing extra torque to the petrol engine in high-demand situations at low speed, or supplying energy during starts. In this way, emissions and fuel consumption are reduced by around 15 per cent compared with the non-hybridised engine.

The battery recharges quickly without requiring any operation by the driver. It is the petrol engine itself, through the alternator/starter motor, that feeds current back to the battery. Simply lifting off the accelerator or making a short downhill run is enough for the battery to recover a high level of charge (it only has 0.9 kWh of gross capacity).
Brilliant performance
It offers a reasonable level of performance, with a top speed of over 205 km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, covering the first kilometre from a standstill in 29.6 seconds, with a homologated consumption of 4.9 l/100 km. This makes it comfortable for urban journeys and capable of long-distance trips with confidence and low consumption figures. It features a “sport” mode, which modifies the engine and accelerator management parameters to deliver a quicker response. It can even provide an extra 12 CV of peak power for high-demand situations when the accelerator pedal is pressed firmly.

One of the most notable features of the Peugeot 2008 is its comfort. Not only for the interior space it offers, which is among the best in its segment, but also for the layout of the controls and instruments, the low level of perceived noise, the comfort and quality provided by the suspension, and the responsiveness of the steering. With a length of 4.30 metres, a width of 1.77 m and a height of 1.55 metres, it is a very agile model that is easy to drive at all times, with a very practical size: it causes no problems in the city, yet offers enough room for four adults to travel comfortably, plus a 434-litre boot.
