The Peugeot 301 is officially unveiled
Peugeot has officially unveiled the Peugeot 301, the economy saloon that will be manufactured in Vigo and aimed at other emerging markets, and which will go on sale from 1 November.

Based on the premise of its robustness and offering high-quality finishes for a vehicle in the price range in which the Peugeot 301 will compete, the lion brand has presented it through a press release along with some images. The 301 is the model that the brand will build in Vigo and it will initially be aimed at the emerging markets where the brand has the greatest presence, some countries in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, before later reaching Europe.
According to Peugeot, the brand has tested it on all kinds of roads, conditions and climates over many thousands of kilometres in order to simulate the driving conditions that many of its future customers in those parts of the world have to face day to day. From a product standpoint, this will be the brand’s economy saloon, following the general trend of other brands increasingly getting involved with economy saloons of this kind such as the Skoda Rapid, the Seat Toledo and others; all to see whether the market finally picks up once and for all.
Returning to what this 301 is, it is striking that Peugeot is sticking to its guns in selling this model mainly in countries outside Europe or Spain. Considering that a European version would need to include airbags and ESP, this could make it a little more expensive, although not to the extent of not even offering a 301 finish. In Spain at least, we will have the Citroën C-Elysée, the Groupe PSA’s other budget offering.
Among the engines chosen for this 301, let’s not look for great brilliance, since this is a car aimed at those who want to spend little money on a saloon. The 1.2 VTi with 72 horsepower or the 1.6i 16v with 115 horsepower are more than enough. On the diesel side, the almost eternal 1.6 HDi could not be missing.
