Peugeot has announced the expansion of the range of its family MPV, the 5008, with the arrival of a new petrol engine.

It is the 1.2 Puretech in its 130 CV version, an engine already well known within the brand, with a proven track record.

The Peugeot 5008 embodies the most family-oriented and versatile side of the French manufacturer. It is a mid-size MPV capable of seating up to 7 people – depending on the trim – with a level of comfort and practicality on a par with the best. Although its design is among the longest-serving in the entire Peugeot range, the 5008 has aged well.

It now improves its sales prospects even further with the addition of the 1.2 Puretech 130 engine, a unit that has been recognised on several occasions with numerous awards, including the ‘International Engine of the Year 2015’, one of the most important prizes in the industry.

This engine is well known within PSA; in fact, we tested it a few months ago in the compact model, the 308, where it already left us with a good impression. It is a three-cylinder 1,199 cm3 unit with direct injection and turbocharged forced induction. Available in several power outputs, for the 5008 the most powerful variant has been chosen, with 130 CV and 230 Nm.

Paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, it comes with Start&Stop as standard, and homologated average consumption on the combined cycle is 5 litres per 100 km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 118 g per kilometre.

It will be sold exclusively in the top trim level, called Allure, which offers extensive equipment including rain and light sensors, a photochromic interior mirror, parking sensors, electrically folding wing mirrors, or the WIP-Nav Plus system, which comprises the multimedia unit, GPS navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, all controlled via a colour screen. Its price starts at €20,500.
