The Peugeot i-Cockpit turns 10 years old

Peugeot’s revolutionary cockpit has already turned 10 years old, with a technology and ergonomics designed to make driving its models more comfortable.

Peugeot I Cockpit Futuro

In 2012, the first generation of the Peugeot 208 was launched, and among all the novelties it featured, the Peugeot i-Cockpit was one of the main ones. This cockpit was designed to house all the technological elements intended to make driving more comfortable. Ten years have passed, and the i-Cockpit has improved considerably.

This element has been developed over two decades, thanks to the appearance of the concept cars that featured it and served as test beds to refine the technology used. In this first version of the i-Cockpit, the one used in the SR1 prototype was employed, which had been launched two years earlier.

In the case of the Peugeot 508, the version used comes from the Exalt prototype. For the new generation of the Peugeot 208, the inspiration came from the concept car Fractal. Additionally, the instrument cluster comes from the Peugeot Quartz. All of them contributed details that were added to the new production cars.

Three levels of use

The Peugeot i-Cockpit offers three levels of use. The first is at eye level. Thanks to the elevated instrumentation, the driver does not have to take their eyes off the road. The second level is at hand height. The materials feel pleasant to the touch and can be easily located and operated. Their use is very intuitive, and they are placed in positions that are easy to reach.

Finally, the i-Cockpit offers a very high level of comfort that surrounds the occupants with comfortable seats with good support.

Latest-generation technology

The Peugeot 208, which arrived in 2019, projects information in the form of a hologram. This means it is displayed as it would be in a fighter jet. This allows the indications to be dynamic and to appear closer to the driver depending on their importance or urgency. This reduces reaction time by half a second, a time that can be very important for avoiding risks.

In new Peugeot vehicles, other features have been incorporated that improve the operation of the i-Cockpit. For example, new touchscreens and 12.3-inch instrument displays, in an elevated position with the option to customize the graphics.

In addition, voice control and easy access to all the smartphone functions on the multimedia screen offer the possibility to travel comfortably and safely in a cabin designed so that the driver and the rest of the occupants travel in a comfortable way.
