The Polestar 3 will reach the market in 2022 and could compete with the Jaguar I-Pace and the very Tesla Model X.

The future Polestar 3 will be a fully electric high-performance SUV that could reach the market in 2022. The Swedish brand with Chinese ownership would be working on global expansion through production of the Polestar 3. This model could become the most direct rival to the Tesla Model X.

This surprising high-performance electric SUV will become the third model from Polestar and will enter production next year, specifically in the United States. The brand has followed a numerical naming strategy, but it is worth noting that the Polestar 3 will become the first car from the Volvo Group to use the new modular platform called SEA, developed jointly with parent company Geely.

The Polestar 3 will be manufactured at the Volvo facilities in Ridgehill, South Carolina. It is important to mention that this future fully electric SUV will be produced alongside the Volvo S60 and the new generation of the Volvo XC90. Polestar has chosen the United States because it is the second largest electric vehicle market in the world after China, where the Polestar 1 and Polestar 2 are produced.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, has assured that “the Polestar 3 will be manufactured in the United States. I remember the great response I received when I first shared the vision of Polestar in the United States. I am proud that our first fully electric SUV will be built in the southern United States.” “From this point on, the United States is no longer an export market but a domestic market.”

Likewise, the CEO of Polestar himself has stated that the benefits of US production include shorter delivery times and a lower environmental impact. Furthermore, it has been added that the future Polestar 3 will have a very competitive price. For now, the Polestar 3 remains an unknown, but design chief Max Missoni has suggested it could be inspired by the brand’s concept called Precept. “The design language of that car will influence the rest of the models.”

The Polestar 3 will reach the market to compete with models such as the Jaguar I-Pace or the Tesla Model X. In addition, the SEA modular platform is expected to offer competitive performance levels. It is worth noting that the first model to use this platform was the Zeekr 001, which features a 100 kWh battery and a twin-motor powertrain delivering 540 CV and reaching 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
