The Porsche 911 GT2 RS once again flexes its muscle by setting a new record at Road Atlanta
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has once again shown its potential at Road Atlanta, a circuit where it has broken the record by stopping the clock at 1:24.88 minutes.

A few months ago, when the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ was still a vehicle in testing, a fierce battle took place alongside the Huracán Performante and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS to determine which production car was the fastest on the asphalt of the Nürburgring. After several back-and-forths, the Stuttgart company managed to taste gold once again thanks to a tuned preparation courtesy of MR. However, Porsche wanted to keep fighting to prove that its latest GT2 RS is a true precision machine, capable of snatching records by shaving off every last second on the stopwatch, something it has achieved by setting the fastest lap at the Road Atlanta circuit.
It is true that the new generation of the legendary 911 is about to welcome the upcoming GT3 and GT3 RS, but Porsche did not want to miss the opportunity to once again demonstrate the power of its GT2 RS. That designation refers to the fastest sports car from the German brand to date, outperforming certain vehicles of greater calibre and this new record shows it.
Crossing borders
Porsche travelled to the United States to drive once again at Road Atlanta, where professional driver Randy Pobst was in charge of guiding the GT2 RS around the North American track. At the same time, David Donohue, winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans, shared the driving duties with Pobst, the latter being the one who ultimately set the new record behind the wheel of the German supercar.

In this way, the American driver covered the 4.08 kilometres that make up the Road Atlanta circuit in just 1:24.88 minutes. With this premise, the 911 GT2 RS not only showcases its refined aerodynamics but also its undeniable power, which is drawn from a 3.8-litre six-cylinder inline engine capable of producing 700 CV of power and 750 Nm of torque.
The record stays at home
It is true that on many occasions several brands compete for the same title, but on this occasion Porsche had to fight against its own shadow. This is because the previous holder of the title of fastest vehicle on the asphalt of Road Atlanta was none other than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a supercar that relies on a more “modest” mechanical setup but that also enjoys extraordinary dynamic behaviour.

The most powerful and radical naturally aspirated version of the 911 was able to stop the clock at an impressive 1:26.24 minutes, a time that few vehicles will be able to match. This is how the German firm has chosen to bid a full farewell to the acclaimed 911 991 and make way for the highly anticipated performance versions of the new 992.
